620 Gervais St.
Columbia, SC 29201
This is a wine and tapas bar. Very good wines (as low as $3 for a 2.5 oz. glass) with your choice of many small hors d'oeuvres plates (tapas). The original Spanish tapas (from "tapa" meaning lid) was a small plate with a free snack on it that was served as a cover for your drink glass to keep the flies out (http://www.softdoc.es/madrid_guide/eatingout/tapas.html). The tapas at Gervais & Vine are each very well prepared, small but quite tasty. The hot tapas with meat or fish cost from $5 to $8 each. Cold tapas available too. Personal size pizzas start at $7.50. Bread is extra, with a serving of herbed flat bread priced at $2.
Don't expect to come here and find a menu with a three course meal. If you're not in the mood for a full meal, come here and order, for example, a wheat beer with a salmon-sampler tapas for $10 plus tax and tip . No full size main dishes are available. The no-smoking section is in the back and up the stairs in what used to be a fine wine shop. Nice attentive wait staff. Quick service. Owned by the folks who own Mr. Friendly's. Parking in rear.
